Hello!
Hello and Welcome,
OBNL design has been a long time coming, so I am very excited to finally share it with you!
For those who don’t know me, my name is Gina. Im currently living in Marlborough, New Zealand along with husband Sean, our son Riley and doggo Lacy.
I had an interest in design from a young age. While all the other girls in their teen years were enjoying Cosmopolitan magazines, I was more into Urbis, your home and garden, NZ house and garden and anything else I could get my hands on.
My parents bravely let me redecorate my room on a number of occasions, however I believe my colour selections and design choices have greatly improved since then.
I continued on to do a Bachelor of Design Innovation at Victoria university in Wellington, majoring in culture and context. This degree focused more on the impact humans have on design and vice versa. Design is now a fast-paced environment with constantly changing trends and innovations. While I think it’s great that things are constantly evolving, I believe there is a way that we can design to last the test of time and lessen the impact on the environment.
From here I followed on to do a post-grad diploma in interior design. I had found my calling.
After all the study, I had itchy feet to travel the world, and I thought a good way to do this would be to get into the superyacht industry and to also get some money into my back pocket. What I had initially thought would be a 1-2 year adventure ended up being a 10 year journey, having the opportunity to visit and experience countries and cultures spanning from Europe, the Caribbean through to the Pacific and Indonesia. I then returned to New Zealand in the thick of covid lockdowns when I was pregnant with Riley.
OBNL had already been in my head for a while, but with covid lockdowns, baby on the way, my husband continuing to work overseas and a house we had purchased (site unseen before returning to New Zealand) needing renovation, I put it on the back burner….
And on the back burner it stayed… until NOW!
I am really excited to finally launch my services and look forward to helping you with all of your interior design needs. I specialize in a modern organic style, working towards an end design where both form and function come into play, and have a preference for natural materials, however there is a time and place for everything.
Whether you are just after a bit of help choosing paint colours, or deciding on soft furnishings such as blinds and curtains, or whether you’re after a full re-design, there is an OBNL design package to suit.
Every week on this blog, I will share some design tips and tricks that you can implement yourselves at home as well as what and who is currently inspiring me in the design world.
