Mastering Modern Organic: Creating a Stunning Ensuite in 5 Steps

Creating a Modern Organic bathroom blends contemporary style with the soothing elements of nature to provide your own private retreat within your home.  If you’re looking to create a Modern Organic ensuite of your own, here are 5 essential tips to help you to get the results your after.

Natural Materials.

Central to the modern organic aesthetic are natural materials like wood, stone and bamboo.  You can incorporate these materials in your vanity, countertops, flooring or even feature walls.  Natural materials are great for adding visual warmth and texture but also create a beautiful tactile connection to nature.

Colour Palettes.

True to modern organic style, it’s best to stick to colours inspired by natures hues.  Think shades of soft greens and blues, warm browns and earthy tones; along with crisp whites to create a sense of tranquility and openness.  Try to limit the number of colours to 3 including your accessories to keep a cohesive yet calming atmosphere.

Natural Light and Views.

If you have views from your ensuite then prioritise them! Allow as much natural light to come in as possible to enhance the organic feel of the space.  Opt for large windows or skylights where feasible, or add in strategically placed mirrors to amplify daylight and help that indoor/outdoor connection. If you’re lucky enough, and privacy allows, position your bathtub, vanity or shower to make the most of the scenic views, or your toilet if you’re that way inclined!!

Functional design.

Modern organic design in general is based around simplicity and functionality.  Go for clean lines and paired back fixtures where beauty is in the basic form.  Also consider smart storage solutions that blend in so that you can hide products and clutter away, but also have them easily accessible.

Think about flow, and make sure you allow enough space between features such as your shower, bath, vanity and toilet.  The ideal height for a vanity is between 850mm and 900mm.

Also consider placement of your toilet, its best that it’s not the first thing you see when you open the door, if this is the only possible layout, then consider putting in a nib wall or reeded glass for added privacy.

The art of bathroom layout lies in balancing space, flow, and purpose seamlessly

Artwork and Décor.

The addition of pot plants can bring the essence of nature directly in ; think sub tropical or exotic plants such as ferns, succulents or orchids.  Personally, I have found that baby monstera do well.  Not only do plants add a refreshing touch, but they help purify the air.  Depending on the ventilation of your space, you could put prints and artwork that is in sealed frames, otherwise, wooden, glass, artisanal ceramics or resin art are also good options; all good ways to add texture and warmth to the space.

Towels don’t have to be all the same colour, you could have 2 complimentary or contrasting colours or patterns to add interest.
There are also many beautiful skincare products that are like artwork in themselves with beautiful shaped bottles or labelling – display these on the vanity top or on shelving for an added touch.
